I’ve been wondering how a flexible display would show itself this year and it seems we may already have an answer with e-paper tablets. Developed by Queen’s University, Plastic Logic and Intel Labs, they basically look like sheets of paper. They have a bit of a grey tint, which has to bring exclamation points and light bulbs streaming out of newspaper CEO craniums.
Though a bit primitive in it’s look with the silly ribbon cables coming out of them, you can see the implications of such technology. They’re 10.7-inch plastic displays which are flexible and touch sensitive. Each display houses a different and the screens can sit side by side to create a larger view. You can also provide commands with twisting or flicking gestures.
I was concerned that there wouldn’t be a use for this technology, but now I’m a little more optimistic when I see it in action. I can easily see schools, libraries and potential newspaper companies benefiting from this.
I mean, how cool would it be to see moving display on a newspaper stand? It wouldn’t get to that point in our lifetime, but it’s awesome to imagine.
