Nvidia Face Works Tech Demo

Nvidia showed off it’s Face Works technology at GTC (GPU Technology Conference) this week. Face Works is a system for compressing and rendering facial animation from high-resolution motion-capture rigs. A performance was shot with 156 cameras arranged in a sphere around an actor’s head, and 30 expressions were recorded then compressed from 32GB of data to 300 MB. The animation was running in real time during this demonstration on the Nvidia GeForce Titan video card. The Titan is a $1K graphics card, but it really shows it’s worth in this demo. The animation was developed in conjunction with USC’s Institute for Creative Technologies.
