Yacht Club Games bring you Shovel Knight, an exciting 8-bit adventure starring a blue knight and hist trusty shovel. Yacht Club’s Kickstarter describes it as a “love letter to 8-bits” in which it truly is, at least by the looks of it.
The developers openly admit that it’s a mash-up of Dark Souls, Castlevania and Megaman. A combination that is hard to go wrong with, mixed with what looks like interestingly unique gameplay due to the trusty shovel.

“Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It’s a hot mashup of new and old that may remind you of Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!”
The game offers a damsel in distress storyline, beautiful dynamic 8-bit art, interesting gameplay with options to choose levels and fantastic music, which you can hear more of here.
The kickstarter is about halfway to it’s goal, which needs to be met in 25 days.
The game will be coming out for PC, 3DS and WiiU. $10 gets you a PC copy of the game, $15 for 3DS and WiiU. They also offer more perks for larger payments including the soundtrack, original art and posters.
